At that time in King Pasenadi’s kingdom of Kosala there was a robber named Angulimala. He was fierce, with bloody hands, engaged in killing living beings.

When this was said the Blessed One went on, silently. Earlier I was known as Angulimala with bloody hands, look at the refuge the leader of being is destroyed. Then the Blssed One knowing that king Pasenadi of Kosala was shivering with fear and that his hairs were standing on end, said thus: This talk arose from the middle section of the sutta — which I am more likely to name a parable. At that time at the entrance to the palace of king Pasenadi of Kosala was assembled a large gathering, making much noise: Then and there the robber threw away his weapons into the depths of the forest, fell at the feet of the Blessed One and begged for the going forth.
O recluse, even a band of ten, twenty, thirty forty, or even fifty people going along suttw path were killed by this robber Angulimala. And usually it works well. You are not restrained towards living things, therefore I have stopped and you have not. Venerable sir, I cannot punish him.

At that time venerable Angulimala was seated close to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One stretched his right and said, to king Pasenadi of Kosala: Went as far as could be reached in that conveyance and approached the Blessed One, on foot. Each choice was made interdependent of the encompassing factors of culture, perceptions and dispositions.
This is the moral foundation that arises from the Three Pure Precepts, the intent to act with loving-kindness no matter the circumstances. The Blessed One performed such a psychic intention, that the robber Angulimala pursuing the Blessed One with all his strength would not reach the Blessed One.

He stopped and called to the Blessed One. Hence he became notorious as the Robber with a garland of fingers— Angulimala Cora.
King Kosala publicly notified that the royal army was going to annihilate the robber. Some will be easy to make, others will be complicated taking much thought and debate. Up to this point in the parable choices were made by the father and mother giving him a harmless name and angulkmala to succeedthe king when the father offers to have his son killed the king declinesAhimsaka first choosing to be good, later choosing to do badhis fellow students negative actionsand the teacher first being supportive, later believing lies and manipulating Ahimsaka.
Venerable Angulimala experienced the pleasantness of release in his seclusion, angulimalla then these verses occurred to him:. Yet venerable sir, how could such virtues come to evil doers, like him? He knew, birth is destroyed, the holy life is lived, what should eutta done is done.
What would you do to him? I will throw away demerit for good, hearing your words enjoined with the Teaching. Then king Pasenadi of Kosala getting up from his seat, worshipped and circumambulated the Blessed One, and went away.
