Legally under just copyright law OP and his friends could transfer the PDFs around as long as their was only ever one copy between them. I’m not going to bother looking either of those up, because you’re already violating copyright law.
I doubt the law makes any difference between sharing copies with 1 or deivethrurpg, people, and regardless, it’s a shitty move against the creators of the book. If you feel I’m splitting hairs, well, fair enough. It probably technically does violate the terms of service to pass them around, but you’re supporting the writers, unlike if you did wayermark pirate them. It isn’t the same as music – I don’t want to read books on my computer.
The character creation process could be done before games, if only on days where we aren’t particularly pressed for time, but my players are very picky about which powers they’re getting for their characters and enjoy researching it at home when possible.

If we bought a copy of the book in this fashion, could each member of the group access the book from their computers, or does DRM limit how many devices you can view it on?
Likely they dropped it as solving a non-existant problem not that piracy doesn’t exist, watremark using DTRPG for it direct is likely a trivial number. Hell has frozen over.
