If you are a seller for commuication product, would you like to suggest updates through seller support? Levitin, Boston University “I’m glad it is still available. Although Chapter 6 on coding has been overtaken by modern developments in this area it still serves as a high quality introduction to the basic concepts of coded systems. The objectives of this course is to introduce the basic principles that underlie the analysis and successful design of a digital communication system.

Emphasis is placed on understanding system design goals and to optimize the tradeoff among basic system parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio, bandwidth, etc.

Wozencraft and Irwin M. Be the first to review this item Amazon Bestsellers Rank: The Proakis textbook has gotten the unfortunate reputation as having the most comprehensive treatment regarding “hard-core” communication theory.

See all free Kindle reading apps. Students learn quickly and solidly. Detection, Estimation, and Filtering Theory.

The content and scope of this highly regarded book–the first overall synthesis of its kind–is reflected in three important objectives: Information Theory and Reliable Communication. It is hard to overestimate the importance of this book.

Amazon Prime Music Stream millions of songs, ad-free. Final score will be calculated as: Digital communication systems have been used in all modern communication systems. It will be e-verifiable at nptel. All in all, my recommendation would be for someone to write a textbook wich covers the basics of communication theory as well as this book does, and then to include content on more modern coding topics, spread spectrum communications, and fading channels.

Composite hypothesis testing, optimal demodulation for non-coherent communication Week What would be really nice is if a more modern edition could contain the solid theoretical treatment of optimum receivers, Shannon channel capacity, and coverage of signaling schemes, with more modern developments in modulation and coding, including the Viterbi algorithm.

Visit our Help Pages. Share your thoughts with other customers. Interfaces and channels for digital communications Week 2: However, the divergence between modern textbooks which are “practical” versus older textbooks which focus more on “theory” is very clear.

Enter your mobile number or email address below and we’ll send you a link to download the free Kindle App. For the more enthusiastic student, 2 Chapter 5 gives the derivation of the Shannon Capacity Theorem, a concept that makes one proud to understand.

Then you can start reading Kindle books on your smartphone, tablet, or computer – no Kindle device required. His coverage of various important bounds is covered very well i.

Performance analysis of binary and M-ary signaling commuunication The coverage of the topics on signal-spaces is fantastic, and the chapter on optimum receivers is commmunication extremely thorough despite the age of this book. You may have had these on your other courses, but this is a very nice treatment and referred by the later chapters.

However, we did rely somewhat communicaion the treatment of Gaussian processes in Part I of Van Trees classic work. Pulse code modulation, Differential pulse codemodulation, and delta modulation Week 7: Complex baseband representation, degrees of freedoms, linear modulation, spectral description of linearly modulated signals Week 8: This book sets the standard so high that other contemporary books eigital communication theory in general examples: Digital communication is a fundamental course in the electronics and communication stream.

Principles of Digital Communications – Course

I prefer it to many newer books. Somewhere along the way, today’s textbooks have truly lost much of the hard-core theory, and this book has it. The price is very reasonable and the quality of print is excellent. However, when I used this book in a graduate communication theory course, we only covered chapters 4,5, and 6 as background in random processes wizencraft already assumed.

However, if you feel the need to implement a Fano decoder, this is the best place to look, explanations by other books appear to be wrong! This textbook is arguably the most scholarly textbook ever dogital for communication engineers.
